People live and die. Relationships start and end. Marriages are dissolved. Memories are soon forgotten. Friends turn enemies. Enemies turn allies, but life goes on. What then, is the essence of human existence, if all we do is live and die?
No one has written instructions handed to him or her at birth stating how to live and what to accomplish. Nearly everyone is born without a clue of his or her purpose, and from childhood often struggles to make a meaning out of life - a struggle from self-discovery to self–actualization, a fight to make our lives come about, a tussle to be significant. It is surprising how some go through this journey of life without realizing their purpose, the secret behind their existence. These are the people who live by chance. They take each day as it comes and believe the day runs them. But, an inquisitive mind would ask, is there ever a purpose? Is there a secret behind every existence?
It then shouldn’t be surprising to you to know that your birth was accompanied by a purpose which has been awaiting your arrival into this world. This is a task you accept when you take responsibility to be ally with the Creator of the universe to leave footprints in the sands of time by taking control of your life - pursuing your passion, your greater purpose - with zeal, eagerness, and enthusiasm through selfless service to the human race. This purpose isn’t ambiguous. You find it in the activities that make you happy, joyful, eager and enthusiastic. Once you find your purpose and develop it, you become significant and you start to live a fulfilled life.
Just as countries have natural resources and indigenous products which they export to other countries that are in need of their output, you have within you a purpose which needs to be refined and exported to the world through your passion. Just as exporting countries often grow economically and have better diplomatic ties, so through servicing your passion you should grow in many spheres, have quality relationships with people, and be closely united with your Maker. Just also as some countries’ natural resources are due to their climate which gives them an edge over other countries, your purpose may give you an edge over others. It could make you an asset to the world. An asset only remains valuable when it is useful.
The contents of this book, hopefully, would help you discover that there is a mission behind every life on earth and that mission cannot be quantified in monetary value. And also help you to identify your purpose and develop your passion. It is written with a view to refining your passion and making it ready for exposure to the world. You do not live for yourself; you live for others, to make the world a better place for your generation and the generations to come through your exploits.
Hope B. Ekeh, Jr. is an educator, entrepreneur, and speaker. He speaks on Living a Life of Purpose. He grew up in the third largest city in Abia State, Ohafia. He is a graduate of Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State. This is his first book.
